Botany is the science of vegetables – those that are not good to eat, as well as those that are. Since study of flora involves lots of practical work the department strives to go beyond the class room teaching and arranges field trips and visit to botanical gardens, thus helping students in experiential learning. It has carried out audit of all the major trees, plants and scrubs available on the campus.
Programme
The course curriculum broadly focuses on the scientific study of plants (Algae, Fungi, Bryophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperm and Angiosperm) and covers Physiology, Anatomy, Embryology, Taxonomy, Ecology, Biodiversity in details. The students will learn how plants function at the cellular, tissue, organ level and the evolution of plants, how they contribute to biodiversity and overall interaction with each other which impacts their physical environment.
The course deals with study of plants. The whole course comprises of four semesters where students are imparted deep knowledge about the plant kingdom, physiology, genetics, biotechnology, cell biology, microbiology and ecology. It also deals with various aspects of Horticulture, Forestry and Environmental science. M.Sc. in Botany comes with some unique advantages like huge diversity of jobs, increasing demand in research, field work, forest projects etc.
